Children's Eyecare

Regular eye examinations play an important role in your child's development, learning and confidence. At Eyeworks London we like to treat our little customers just as well as our grown-up ones. We are well experienced in dealing with children and have lots of little tricks to make the eye test easy and fun for them.

We like to see children from 3 ½ years old and ideally before they first start school. We also fit contact lenses for children from 8 years old.

Why are children's eye tests important?

Children often assume everyone sees the world the way they do. As a result, vision problems can go unnoticed and may affect learning, concentration, reading and everyday activities.

Regular eye examinations help us monitor how your child's vision is developing and identify any concerns early, including:

 - Short-sightedness (myopia)
 - Long-sightedness
 - Astigmatism
 - Eye teaming and focusing issues
 - Lazy eye (amblyopia)
 - Squints (strabismus)

Signs your child may need an eye test

While some children have no obvious symptoms, you may notice:

  • Sitting very close to screens
  • Holding books close to their face
  • Frequent headaches
  • Rubbing their eyes
  • Difficulty concentrating at school
  • Squinting to see clearly
  • Complaints of blurred vision

If you've noticed any of these signs, an eye examination can provide reassurance and help determine whether treatment is needed.
What happens during a children's eye examination?

Our experienced optometrists adapt every eye examination to suit your child's age and confidence level.

During the appointment we assess:

  • Visual clarity and prescription requirements
  • Eye co-ordination and focusing
  • Eye health- Visual development

Our aim is to make the experience enjoyable, relaxed and easy to understand for both children and parents.

Myopia Management

Myopia management uses specially designed spectacle lenses or contact lenses to help slow the progression of short-sightedness as your child grows.

At Eyeworks London, we offer a range of myopia management options and can recommend the most suitable approach based on your child's age, prescription and lifestyle.
